Extinction disrupts a food web/ food chain. The loss of single needed species might affect the human population in a long term. Every single organism on this planet has some sort of job which relates to a humans benefit. Even one species going extinct, can harm a large population.

For example if bees went extinct, we would not only lose honey but also the loss of flowering plants that rely on bees for pollination.
