- In March 2009, NASA launched a program called the Kepler Mission in hopes of finding life-supporting planets similar to Earth.


- Within the first 16 months of the operation, about 2,326 potential planets were discovered


- The universe is so vast that the Kepler spacecraft is only able to explore a certain region in the sky. It focuses on one large area that includes the constellations Cygnus and Lyra, chosen for its abundance of stars similar to our sun.
