- Mars One is a nonprofit foundation with a goal to establish permanent human settlement on Mars.

- The first unmanned mission (meaning not having a human crew in a space flight) is scheduled to depart in the year 2020.

- Crews will begin to depart for their one-way journey to Mars in the year 2026. Other crews will subsequently depart every 26 months afterwards.

- When the astronauts and other volunteers arrive on Mars, a "reliable living environment" will be waiting for them.
