On July 2nd in 1972 Margarita Vergara Dávila de Vergara and Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo gave birth to their daughter Sofia in Barranquilla , Colombia, and little did they know, they gave her the gene of talent.

Sofia was called Toti by her siblings as a child and went to an Elementary bilingual school and also ended up going to college for dentistry at a university in Colombia but left two semesters before graduation to pursue her modeling and show business career.

When she was 17, she was discovered by a photographer on the beach and it got her on screen doing a Pepsi commercial for Latino Americans. When she was 18, she married high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez. She gave birth to her son Manolo in 1993 . That same year she divorced Joe Gonzalez.

She also worked as a model and starred in two Mexican television shows, Fuera de Serie and then the variety show A Que Te Atreves. She later then caught the attention on English audiences and winning a American Comedy Award . And in 1995, she won Hispanic Woman of the Year

In 1998, tragedy struck in her family when her older brother was shot and murdered during an attempt of someone kidnapping him . Sofia felt unsafe in her country so her mother, her son, and herself moved to Miami . Her new surroundings gave her a new beginning in life and her television production studio was in Miami so it worked out. She also had a new take on the mainstream audience .

In 2000, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, got her thyroid removed. She survived, and now takes medication to prevent hypothyroidism.

She also has appeared in many films such as " Chasing Papi" , "Meet the Browns", "Madea Goes To Jail", "Happy Feet Two", "Smurfs 2" and the movie "New Years Eve". And in May 8th, her and her co-star Reese Witherspoon's movie, Hot Pursuit came out.

The main boost in her career was her starring in the hit television show " Modern Family"in 2009. Sofia is castes as Gloria Delagado- Prichett. Gloria is the role of Ed O'Neill's "trophy wife" and most people mistake Ed for her father and people on the show call her a gold digger. And in 2010, she was nominated and won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress

In 2010 , she got engaged to Nick Loeb who is an American business man and 3 months later they split up. She now is engaged to Joe Manganiello and they are truly in love. Sofia's career is sky rocketing that will never run out of fuel and she hopes to inspire many young Latino women to pursue their dreams and become what they desire.
