Body Paragraph 3

Is the veil really just fabric that covers a woman's head? To many Muslim woman, the veil is a prison made out of cloth. Much has changed in the Muslim religion since the time of Mohammed. Islam has been corrupted and distorted by male theologists according to many Muslims. This picture, showing a Muslim female with prison bars covering her eyes reflects how women feel trapped and enslaved. In these Muslim societies, women are stricken with constant fear and anxiety to conform. The fear comes from the society itself, which sets this extreme standard, and is enforced by husbands, fathers and brothers. Conformity, obedience, and fear are all essential to ensure that you have women do as society tells them. I think Marjane would agree with this photo. In her school, they had numerous strict rules. The total restrictions forced upon her and her peers resulted in them rebelling. The more restrictions a society has on a group of people, the higher chances for rebellion. Ultimately, if people are not free to act in their own way, they are going to have a revolution. In any society, there has to be rules to keep order and function. When excessive rules are made to instill fear and try to make people behave in a certain way, that's when problems occur. That was happening while Marjane was growing up in Iran. The Iranian government set up a society with rigid laws. If everyone did not adapt with their laws, there were harsh consequences. In general, Marjane misbehaved and rebelled in the classroom, at demonstrations and even at home. People only rebel if they absolutely hate something and their freedom is infringed upon. To escape the prison of oppression, the veil should come off.
