Vargas mudslide flood
The 1999 Vargas tragedy struck the state of Vargas in Venezuela. Terrible rains and flash floods were through December 14-16. This killed thousands of people, destroyed thousands of homes, and led to the complete collapse of the states infrastructure. A neighborhood was buried 3 meters under mud and a high percentage of homes were swept away into the ocean. A few whole towns were completely disappeared. 10% of Vargus perished during this event.
