Santiago experiences an omen when he sees two pairs of hawks fighting each other. Shortly after he has visions of armies riding through the oasis.
Event 21
The night before the supposed "invasion" Santiago is restless. He goes on a walk during the night and is confronted by a man with a hawk and a white horse. Believing him to be an army scout Santiago speaks with him. The man questions Santiago as to why he is allowed to interpret the omens and save the Oasis. Santiago quotes the merchant and camel driver in his explanations and says it is written.
Event 19
Santiago tells the camel driver, a member of his caravan, about his vision. The camel driver believes all men can see to the Soul of the World and instructs Santiago to tell the chieftains.
Event 20
Santiago meets with the chieftains in their ornate tent. The chieftains do not disregard Santiago and quote the Bible parable of Joseph the consul as their reasoning. Their condition, however, is that if not one of their weapons are used they will kill Santiago.
