Event 5

Santiago meets an old man in town. Santiago tries to ignore him, but the man is persistent. The old man reveals himself as Melchizedek, the Old king of Salem.

Event 8

Santiago arrives in Tangier and is unfamiliar with the people or customs. Santiago is robbed on his first day in Tangier.

Event 6

Santiago believes that Melchizedek is a scammer, but Melchizedek writes the names of Santiago's parents in the sand. Santiago is amazed and Melchizedek reveals the truth of personal legends to Santiago.

Event 7

Santiago gives Melchizedek 1/10th of his flock and bids him farewell. Before Santiago leaves Melchizedek tells him a parable about a boy and a castle.
