Outcome
The Kokoda campaign was successful for the Australian troops. The aim was to keep the Japanese invaders from taking Port Moresby, and they successfully did this. Japan was unable to take Port Moresby, thus did not have a site from which to bomb Australia.
Australian casualties: about 630 killed, 1100 wounded, and up to 1900 non-battle related deaths (ie. Sickness)
Japanese lives lost: Unknown, but of the 13,500 troops that began the Kokoda campaign, only around 5000 reached Buna when the Japanese withdrew.
