Common Core WHST.6-8.1a: Introduce a claim about a topic or issue, organize your reasons and your evidence logically.

Compare problems with biotechnology in production agriculture by focusing on transfer of genes in transgenic organisms to natural problems?(Levi)

GMO’s can transfer there genetically changes genes to wild weeds and plants create a new and worse pest. Example Round Up Ready soybeans were created to have a resistant to Round Up. This allows farmers to spray Round Up over the soybeans and kill only the weeds. However, after just 10 years the plants shared the Round Up resistant with pig weeds making them immune just like the soybeans. Now farmers have a bigger pig weed problem then before soybeans were altered.

Using GMO’s will cause farmers to over farm certain crops also known as monoculture. Monoculture will deprive the soil of important nutrients.Thereby reducing nature’s system to replenish the soil as is the case with diverse plant ecosystems and plant rotation.

Crop Rotation (natures pesticide)

The successive planting of different crops on the same land to improve soil fertility and help naturally control insects and pests diseases.el
