Review

-3.8 of 5 stars

-I enjoyed the book, but there were some parts I felt were lacking. Lots of characters were common tropes in fantasy: the brooding anti-hero, the wise old mentor, the evil power-hungry wizard, the All-American boy, the bad boy, the weak queen, the abusive mother who only wants the best for her family, the cantankerous old guy... While I did like the majority of these characters, it would have been nice to see some change. Also, I just really didn't like Han. He was genuinely a bit boring to me. I think if the book was entirely Raisa's story, I would adore it. The political intrigue, romance, and Raisa herself drew me in each time it was her part. Han's parts were harder to get through. However, I ADORED the worldbuilding. Honestly, I would adore a book about Hanalea.
