The scientific name for walleye is Sander vitreus. Walleye spawn in springs. They spawn after the ice breaks up and the water temperature reaches in the 38-45 degrees. They will be found in rivers where they lay their eggs on gravel and in lakes where they lay their eggs in weeds. Walleye eat plankton, insect larvae, minnows, and small fish.
