The scientific name of the large mouth bass is Micropterus salmoides. Large mouth bass live in lakes, ponds, and rivers. The live in fresh water that is clear. They need an abundance of vegetation to survive. They like places that have submerged logs and rocks for shelter. They use these to get away from bigger predators chasing them. Bass like to hangout by lily pads and weeds because there is a lot of insects and fish. Bass eat insects, fish, frogs, vegetation, snakes, worms, and small birds.
