High military and political leaders were chosen based on talent and loyalty. Chinggis Khan also built a palace and capital to centralize political affairs.

Kublai Khan Relentlessly attacked the Song Dynasty and was able to eliminate all opossition within the kingdom. He launched several campaigns in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Burma as well as a naval attack on Java, along with attempting airborne invasions on Japan. The mongols did not adapt well to the guerrilla warfare used in these defending territories and their horses were not used to tropical climates.
