Fernand Leger + Dudley Murphy: Ballet Mécanique 1924 16.10

Together with Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp, and with the American avant garde composer George Anthiel, Leger and Murphy create an iconic experimental movie - the two women featured are Murphy’s wife Kathleen and the famous Kiki de Montparnasse - an artist’s model and lover of Man Ray. The film uses several in-camera special effects - reversal projection, double exposure, distorted lenses, etc. It was conceived to synch with George Anthiel’s music, but this wasn’t achieved for technical reasons until the 1990s.
