Cholera Outbreak 1854 (cont.)
How Did This Problem Occur?
A numerous amount of people live around Broad Street Square. They hauled their water from the closest source, which was the Broad Street Square water pump. Also, they did not have proper plumbing and it was not very hygienic. The bacteria and germs from the human waste contaminated the ground water, which was drinking water for the townspeople on Broad Street. This resulted in 269 deaths and 56 that are currently recovering.
