The most common symptoms of autism are profound problems with social interaction. Other symptoms are avoiding eye contact, physical contact, and disliking music or sound. In humans with autism, a difficulty finding social connections is common. Autistic children also show no social or physical connections with their parents.

Anybody with autism needs specially made treatments. That may be behavioral treatments, medication, or both. Behavioral treatments include parent and professional therapy at home, or professional therapy at a center, classroom, or preschool. Although finding a cure is unlikely, scientists still work to at least improve the quality of life for autistic people.
