Chapter 1

On a dark and stormy night a young girl named Meg Murry couldn't sleep because of the coldness of her attic bedroom during the storm. She was up thinking about everything wrong in her life, like in school where's he didn't fit in. her teachers were threatening to drop her down a grade. She was also scared because a tramp had stolen twelve bed sheets from Mrs. Buncombe.

Dismissing her fears she she goes down to the kitchen to make herself some hot cocoa. Downstairs she finds her younger brother Charles Wallace waiting for her with warm milk ready for the cocoa. Charles always seems to be able to read her mind. Mrs. Murry soon joins them.
