Tests and Diagnosis

Physical Exam: Doctor may do a physical exam and ask In-depth questions about your health. Some cases of Dysthymia may be linked to an underlying physical health problems.

Lab Tests: Your doctor may do a complete blood count, and blood tests to check your folate levels and vitamin D levels, and test your thyroid to make sure its functioning properly.

Psychological Evaluation: This evaluation includes a discussion about your thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

Diagnosis Criteria

- For adults, depressed mood lasts most of the day for two or more years

- For a child, depressed mood lasts most of the day for atleast one year

- They both must also have two or more symptoms.
