Where is Jericho located and what has happened to the village in the past?
The town of Jericho is located about 7 miles (11 kilometers) north of the Dead Sea in the West Bank.
Jericho was settled in about 9000 bc. By about 8000 bc, it had become a community with a population of about 2,000 to 3,000. Jericho’s early residents probably farmed wheat and barley, and built a massive stone wall around the settlement for protection. The town of Jericho has been repeatedly lived in through its history, and many artifacts have been found to tell us more about this submerging city.
The town was occupied by Israel following the Six-Day War of June 1967.
