"To be great is to be misunderstood" was one of Emerson's main points of "Self Reliance". It is shown in today's society. The Divergent series by Veronica Roth is an example. The books are about I group of people in society who don't conform. One part of the society wanted to exterminate them. The could not understand how that they are just people too. They are misunderstood and great because they fight back against the injustices against them. Society still exhibits the concept of "To be great is to be misunderstood"
