What happend?

The light soil, little rainfall and high winds was the perfect combination for destruction when a large drought struck mainly from 1934-1937. This caused massive dust storm unlike any other that reduced visibility to less than a mile for days on end. Winds easily picked up loose topsoil and swirled it into dense dust clouds that blocked out the sun, called “black blizzards.” The Blizzards choked livestock, covered cars and mixed dangerous partials into the air which forced people to wear face masks to prevent dust phnemonia.
