A big part of Ancient Greece was their mythology and a even bigger part of today
They believed in many gods, the main 12 were called “ The Olympians” and there was also many other gods but, weren’t as well known, called “ Minor Gods”. The Olympians were Zeus (King of the Gods, Ruler of heavens, Lord of the sky, etc.), Hera (Queen of the Gods, Goddess of Marriage, Weddings, and Family, wife of Zeus), Poseidon (God of the sea, hurricanes, and earthquakes), Demeter (Goddess of the harvest, plants, and grain), Artemis (Goddess of the moon, hunting, and maidens, twin sister of Apollo), Apollo (God of the Sun, music, and prophecy, twin brother of Artemis, drives the Sun Chariot), Athena (Goddess of wisdom, weaving, and battle strategy), Hermes (God of thieves, travelers, and tricksters), Dionysus (God of wine, partying, and grapes) Hephaestus (God of the forge, craftsmanship, and fire) Ares (God of war), and Aphrodite (Goddess of love and beauty). There are two well known gods that aren’t on the Olympian counsel. One is Hestia; she is the Goddess of the hearth. She gave up her throne for Dionysus. She was the one who kept the Olympians for being at their throats for the most part. The other is Hades God of the Underworld, death, and also Know as Rich Lord. Since in the Underworld he had a throne, so some how that made poor Hades not welcome on Olympus.
One of the customs that the Greeks practiced was at dinner; they would toss the best part of their meal in to the fire as a burnt offering to the Gods. Another was that you would be hospitable to everyone, because it could be a God in disguise. In Athens, once a woman was married, her husband would have control over all her possessions. Basically, most customs had something to do with the Gods or the fact that like most ancient civilizations, women had no rights what so ever.
