Health Risks and Heavy Use

Like most activities and substances, marijuana's health hazards mainly accumulate with heavy use.  However, this heavy use not only affects the 9% who normally become physically dependent on marijuana.  Anyone who uses it regularly, like coffee or alcohol, is going to run terrible, sometimes fatal risks.

•Heavy use of marijuana can lead to increased risk in heart attacks due to the increase in heart rate one experiences after use.

• Heavy use can also lead to a suppression of the immune system, leaving people open to common diseases like the cold and flu.

• Marijuana smokers have a chance to develop air sacs in the lungs, possibly even a lung collapsing, a higher chance than tobacco smokers.

•Users of marijuana have slower reaction time, more lung problems, and generally lower life satisfaction, as well as relationship issues and problems with short-term memory.
