Living

This dog is living. I know this because it has the 6 characteristics and 4 needs of all living things. Also, things are considered living if they have the potential for all of these things.

Living

One characteristic of all living things is that they are made of at least one cell. This dog has cells not only on the outside, but every part of this dog is made of cells.

The second characteristic of living things is the way they use energy, or metabolism. This dog clearly uses energy based on the fact that it is moving in the picture. Moving requires the dog to use energy, fufilling that requirement.

Another characteristic of living things that they reproduce. As you probably know, dogs reproduce by having puppies.

The fourth characteristic of living things is their abillity to respond to their environment. The most common way organisms respond to their environment is moving, and because dogs move, they ave this characteristic.

The fifth characteristic of living things is their ability to grow and develop. The dog has this ability because as a puppy, it was small, but it grew and developed into this dog.

The last characteristic of living things is the chemicals they have inside of them. These chemicals are called the chemicals of life, and they consist of DNA among others. The dog has these chemicals, especially DNA which makes the animal unique from the other dogs in the world.

The four needs of living things are food, water, living space, and stable internal conditions. You most likely know that dogs eat food and drink water, but do you know what the last two are? Living space, or a habitat, is the place to live that provides an organism what it needs. A dog needs this both wild and domesticated. Stable interal conditions, or homoestasis, is when the body reacts to stay stable, for example, dogs pant to keep their body cool.
