- blood tests: confirm the presence of anti-bodies that the body produces to fight infections.

- fluid from sores: your doctor may scrape a small sample of cells from a sore to be tested. Scraping can reveal the bacteria that causes syphilis.

- cerebral spinal fluid: your doctor may also suggest collecting a sample of cerebrospinal fluid through a procedure called a spinal tap.
