The rule of 9s is a standardized system that physicians use to aid in knowing how much of the human body is damaged in a percentage of each major section. This system is only used for second degree burns or greater, because of the severity of higher degree of burns and the importance of accurate healing and care for major burns . The percentage is measured by each section of the body, having a standard percentage no matter the individual. The bodies sections are categorized by 9s meaning 9%.For example ; each arm is 9% of the body, and if you were to get a second degree burn on the front of the arm only and on the whole front surface it would be considered 4.5% of human body is burned, now if it was the whole arm meaning front and back has burned it would be considered 9% . It's considered 9%because of the front surface being 4.5% and the back surface 4.5%and 4.5x2=9% therefore it would be known has 9%of body is burned . This system is to classify the percentage of body damage with second and third degree burns and higher, but to classify the severity of the type of burn is measured within four different degrees .

This system is to classify the percentage of body damage with second and third degree burns and higher, but not to classify the severity of the type of burn is measured within four different degrees.
