English, Dutch, and French Colonies
There were many differences between the Spanish and Portuguese colonies and the colonies in North America ruled by the English, Dutch, and French. One major difference was the structure of the colonies. Both respective societies were relatively different, with Spanish and Portuguese colonies having a much higher number of men, while the Dutch, English and French colonies had a significantly lower amount of men and women. This difference caused the Spanish and Portuguese colonies to be more populated with “mixed” Mestizos, compared to the North American colonies. Mestizos were considered inferior to pure Europeans and increased the diversity of Spanish and Portuguese.
