3. Monroe Doctrine

A. The Monroe Doctrine lead to imperialistic overtones in Latin America as it made sense of United States intervention in Latin America. The United States started to demonstrate interest in trading with or acquiring these areas.


B. The United States was able to become a major imperial and colonial power because of the aftermath of the Spanish-American War. The United States had strong war tactics and strategies, easily defeating Spain and taking over Cuba and Puerto Rico.


C.The government structure of the Philippines was chaotic as the United States tried to gain control. However, there were Philippine rebels that attacked the intruders, leading to years of conflict.
