THE TROPICS OF NEW YORK

-Modernism: The poem was written with a modern style on it.

-Identity Issues: In the poem he says he misses and wants his old familiar ways back; he is unhappy with the new life he is living.

The Tropics of New York is about an African American man who is living in New York and misses his home in Jamaica. He compares the fruit to his memories back home. In Jamaica life was slow and freeing and in the city it is a very fast moving life style that he does not like.
