King Charles I & Parliament

Charles did not do much of what the people wanted, such as ignoring their petition and wanting them to all follow only one religion. Once Parliament tried to limit Charles' power, a war called the "English Civil War" was fought between his supporters and opponents. But once the Puritans had a new general, the king finally was kept as a prisoner.

Religious Tension

King Charles did not agree with having different religions within his kingdoms. He wanted there to be one religion within his kingdoms, like wanting the Presbyterian Scots to accept a version of the Anglican prayer book.
