The message that Charles Dickens was trying to convey was that women during the Victorian time were treated as objects. This is shown through the character Nancy. He also demonstrates how children from young ages were treated equally as adults and viewed as criminals. This passage has affect on the readers by making them feel like judgement isn't the first resort and there needs to be a change in gender equality.
