On Oliver's journey to London he meets Jack. Jack takes him to London and introduces him to Fagin. In return for food and shelter, Oliver and the other boys are encouraged to steal. Oliver's first time experiencing a robbery resulted in him getting arrested and Mr. Brownlow helps him get out.

When Oliver does not return with the Dodger and Charley Bates, Nancy tries to find him by acting as his 'sister'.Nancy and Mr. Sikes find Oliver, take him to Fagin, and rob him of his nice, expensive clothes that he received from Mr.Brownlow. Mr. Brownlow puts an advertisment in the paper, trying to find out where Oliver has gone. Mr. Bumble see's the advertisement and tells Mr. Brownlow negative things about Oliver, trying to change his view of him
