Agonist

Antagonist

Muscles

Preliminary Phase

•Quadriceps

-rectus femoris

-vastus medialis

-vastus lateralis

-vastus intermedius

•Tibialis anterior

•Gastrocnemius

•Soleus

•Hamstrings

-semitendinosus

-semimembranosus

-biceps femoris

•Fibularus longus and brevis

I found that in the preliminary phase, the muscles that contract are antagonists to the muscles that will contract during the force production phase. The muscles relaxing during this phase will be the muscles that contract during the force production phase. I believe this is because the muscles are relaxing to prepare for a movement that requires a lot of energy.
