The book of Jonah was written after the Jews returned from their exile in Babylon. This book is typically consider as humorous because right off the bat, when Jonah was called on by God, he immediately takes off in the opposite direction. The book of Jonah is a narrative history and a prophetic oracle. Important people in this passage include Jonah, the captain, the ship's crew, and the people of Nineveh.

Background Information

Jonah was not stationed at any town specifically because he served as a messager of God to which he traveled from town to town. In the first chapter Jonah is said to have been in Joppa, where he sails for Tarshish, away from the Lord.
