The book of Jonah begins with Jonah being called upon God to go to Nineveh. Jonah refuses, and flees to Tarshish in a ship with few others. While out on sea, a storm erupts which causes Jonah to believe God is angry with him for not following his command. The crew members cast Jonah out into the sea where a large fish, or whale, swallows him. He remains in this fish for three days and three nights. Jonah prays to God and asks for forgiveness for three days when suddenly is spit out of the whale safely onto dry land.
