The Influence of Power
Shannon gains power and authority when she is ripped from her world and placed in Parthelon, where she replaces Rhiannon who is physically exactly the same as Shannon. Acquiring power does a lot of good for Shannon. It makes her more responsible and brave, as she stays to defend the people and world that has become hers. She learns to trust herself and to listen to the goddess. She uses her upbringing to bring happiness and joy and peace to the temple, and changes Rhiannon's image from this at of an elitist mean girl to a kind and caring woman.
Rhiannon is an example of someone who was corrupted by power. When chosen by Epona, Rhiannon was taken to be trained and raised by the temple priestesses. Unfortunately, they pampered and coddled her too much, and she became spoiled rotten and selfish to the core. She used the power she had to get more and more power, to take advantage of people, and to eventually escape all her problems to go to a world that had not only magic but technology.
