Females have a higher risk for burns associated with open fire cooking or operating unsafe cook stoves then men. This is due to there being a higher amount of females working in kitchens or similar structures then males. Although males are more likely to be burned at their place of work, due to fire, chemical and electrical burns, as males have more industrial jobs then females.

Burns are the 11 th leading cause of deTh in young children between the ages of 1-9 years of age.

Most burns are caused by improper adult supervision, and the children being maltreated.
