Prevention

- Check bath water temperature before putting children in

- Make sure smoke alarms in the home work properly; change the batteries regularly

- If children are present, cook on the back burners of the stove (if not able to do so, turn pot handles towards the back of the stove) to prevent child from pulling any hot substance onto themselves

- Do not leave child unattended near fire places, water faucets, firecrackers, matches, or any other flammable items

- Set water heaters in the home to 120°F (48.9°C)

- Don't cook with loose-fitting clothing

- Use durable oven mitts to protect hands and wrists

- Keep combustibles away from heaters

- If you are a smoker, it's best to go outside. NEVER smoke in bed
