If yes, what were your thoughts? How was it different from a feature film?

If no, then how do you expect it to differ from a feature film?


Give 3 examples – other than the length! Every genre has its own specific characteristics.

You use these characteristics to identify the genre. It is important to know them when you work on and analyze the genre.


‘Short film’ is a genre and therefore it has its own set of characteristics.

They are not like a checklist where all have to be present, but you will usually be able to recognize many of the following characteristics in any short film.

Task 3 :


- is no longer than 30 minutes

- jumps straight into the storyline

- has a strong beginning

- has a simple and clear storyline

- has a simple plot

- has few characters

- has a short timeframe

- has recognizable characters

- only has few sub-plots

- only has little dialogue

- is not told chronologically

- has a main character with a goal to achieve

- has a message or a point to make

- has a surprise ending or twis
