Background information: In 1837 Lubbock moved to Houston, Texas, where he opened a general store. In the 1850s Lubbock was active in state Democratic politics. In the party convention of 1856 he fought against the American (or Know-Nothing) party.


Why was he important to the Civil War?

He was a civil war governor and a confederate army officer.
