How the Ancient Greeks wrote Fractions
The Ancient Greeks wrote fractions not by using bars, but by representing unit
fractions by writing the denominator with either a single or a double accent. The greeks didn't just use unit fractions, though. Hence 1/5 would be 5" but with the Greek symbol. Other fractions were often indicated by placing single accent on the numerator & writing the denominator twice, each time with a double accent. Sometimes, the denominator was written in the position of today's exponent. Other times the denominator was directly written on top of
the numerator, but opposite of how they are written today, but with no bar used in between them. Ex: a/b , a-b
