I. Basic Information
A method of writing used to express the author’s point. The author uses details to appeal to the senses (smell, sight, sound, taste, feel) to draw attention to vital parts of the story, which can be analyzed to determine author’s purpose.
The author’s use of description is used to determine the purpose. By noticing the types of details used (simple, complex, subjective, objective, etc.) it is possible to determine who the target audience is as well as reveal information about the narrator and speaker.
