Imperialism in Asia
Military officers and imperialist adventurers engaged in a risky pursuit of influence and intelligence that the British referred as the Great Game. In interests of incising trade between Southeast Asia, imperialists moved in the nineteenth century to establish a presence in south east Asia. The British introduced european style schools and sought to establish close connections with native elites.
