What was the Mummification Process Used For?
The mummification process was when the Egyptians would mummify the dead, but why? Egyptians thought that people needed their bodies because they were convinced that when someone dies their body and soul were separated. Their body and soul would reunite if they were buried. Although, the soul must be able to and recognize in order to have everlasting life. This resulted in embalming people, which is also known to be preserving a dead body. Egyptians also had religions reasons towards afterlife.
Since the Egyptians always looked at the positive of things, this led to believe that gods favored them. Due to this, Egyptians thought that people can continue with a happy afterlife.
Embalmers wrapping up dead body into a mummy.
Embalmers would firstly take out all organs besides the heart. Afterwards, they would create this paste with a combination of salt and herbs and fill in the dead body which would create the/a mummy. This salt mixture would dry up which would prevent the body from decaying. Once dry the embalmers would wrap the mummy with several yards of linen strips. This process would take about 70 days.
