Cyclones
- A cyclone is a low-pressure system that develops in tropical areas and is sufficiently intense to produce gale force winds of at least 63 km/h.
- It is possible for the wind speed to pick up to 188 km/h and if this occurs, it would be known as a severe tropical cyclone.
- The two most common characteristics of a cyclone would be severe wind and heavy rainfall which can lead to flooding.
- Some other effects of the cyclone are storm surges, also known as coastal inundation by seawater. This event can be the most dangerous element that occurs during a cyclone.
