Cause
On April 25, 1986, an explosion rocked the Chernobyl power plant in the Soviet Union. Radioactive dust rose three miles into the air and was carried by the winds to places thousands of miles away.
Effect
Countries close to the disaster suffered the most. The dust contaminated soil and water. Food, water and air were contaminated causing cancer in humans, death in animals and food that was not safe to eat.
