Personal Story: Rosemary Kennedy

Rosemary suffered from a botched lobotomy. She was immediately institutionalized after the procedure and remained in an institution for the rest of her life. Although her family built her a private house to live, they completely cut her off. Most of them stopped visiting her and if they did it was brief and not regular. The family hid her from the public as JFK ran for president and made up stories as to where she really was. It wasn't until after John was elect that they came out and said she was "mentally retarded".
