Farming and Trade

Most Indus Valley people were farmers, as with a lot of early civilizations. Crops included wheat, barley, melons, and dates, along with being able to cultivate cotton and weaving it into cloth. Other people were traders, with their ships carrying cloth, grain, copper, pearls, and ivory. Trading with Sumer may have sparked the Indus Valley's interest in developing their own writing system.
