The most popular fossil was the Calamites which are commonly found in stem fossils of coal.These stems are ridged with divided segments and show that plants during Carboniferous period were tall. 

Another fossil was the crinoid fossil which filled the seas during the Carboniferous period and even earlier. Their fossils are frequently found in limestone from the period.
